Character Info
◎ Character's Name: Cent
◎ Character's Canon: Drakegard 3
◎ Character's Age: Unknown, 18 in appearance
◎ Canon Point: Branch D, post death (or turning into a dove)
◎ Background/History: Here
◎ Is the character a hacker and/or do they have a sixth-sense? No
◎ Personality:
Cent is a somewhat complicated and difficult to understand character, because his actions tend to vary widely and at times seem contradictory. However, his defining characteristic is his unwavering loyalty and undying love for his Intoner, Two. Throughout the story, his actions begin to make sense through that prism, even as he takes actions that appear to be against her on the surface. Cent's prequel novella characterizes him as deeply affectionate and in love with Two, even as he enjoys playfully teasing her from time to time. The bond between the two is probably the healthiest of Intoner/Disciple bonds, even as their devotion to one another borders on a bit extreme. He tries to protect and shield Two away from the unpleasant sides of life, though his efforts are ultimately thwarted by the ridiculous crapsack world they reside in.
Once Two loses her mind to the Flower and begins to go insane, Cent begins to act on his own, for unclear purposes. On Branch A, he attacks Zero and captures her dragon, eventually leading Zero to attack and kill Two. On Branch C, he confronts Two himself and kills her (or tries to), landing a finishing blow on her. While his actions seem strange given his love for her, it seems most likely that he tries to engineer Two's death on these branches, in hopes of putting her out of her misery after she has lost her mind. He's clearly conflicted about his own actions, hesitating to strike Two himself or pained by what he has to do. In Branch A, once Two is dead, he resigns himself to serving Zero, deciding that he no longer cares which Intoner he serves since Two is dead. In Branch C... well, he dies almost immediately following Two's death, making it hard to discern what he would have done then.
Branch B perhaps demonstrates Cent's loyalty to Two the most. Trapped in the Forest of Trials, Cent and the other characters gradually begin losing their memories of the past. As a result, when Cent finds Two, he realizes he has no idea why he betrayed her to begin with - and sides with Two against the rest of the party. His devotion to Two is absolute, to the extent that he is willing to kill the rest of Zero's party for Two's sake. His attachment to the rest of the party is also perhaps the weakest of the bunch - while the other Intoners more or less were happy to switch their allegiances to Zero, Cent was clearly happiest with his former arrangement.
In the final Branch, where Two has already perished at the beginning of the story, Cent moves somewhat listlessly, having little investment in the events that unfold before him. When Dito later betrays the party, Cent summons the Egregori and fights Dito on Zero's behalf, somewhat heroically sacrificing himself. When he realizes summoning the Egregori has cost him his own life, he seems rather apathetic - although Dito has a breakdown as he dies, Cent simply fades away with somewhat uncharacteristic dignity.
Other than his devotion to Two, Cent's most prominent trait is probably his unflappable and boundless arrogance. He believes himself to be an incredibly attractive man, and has no problem constantly flaunting that to the others. He also believes himself to be stronger and smarter than anyone else, when both of these things are definitely untrue. He constantly boasts about his skill in battle and bed, though realistically it's unlikely he's much better at those things than any of the other Disciples. The intelligence he prides himself in is clearly a sham, as all of the anecdotes and pearls of wisdom he tries to bequeath on the other party members are consistently wrong. It's unclear whether these are mere jokes on his part or actual mistakes, but the perception he creates of himself is one of an airheaded joker.
Other than his surface traits, he also exhibits a great sense of self-loathing throughout the story, though it's not always apparent due to his constant bluster. He clearly shows great remorse for what happened to Two, and his own ability to stop her madness from consuming her. Though it tends to be understated, he latches on to Zero's words when she calls himself a fool, mockingly referring to himself as one from time to time. In Branch D when he perishes, he declares himself one with some satisfaction as he dies, apparently content that he was able to at least accomplish something for Zero and the others.
◎ Powers/Abilities: As the Disciple of an Intoner, Cent has higher than normal physical abilities. His strength, speed and stamina are all abnormally high, along the lines of all the other Disciples. He often boasts about being the strongest of them, though whether that's actually true is questionable (though not entirely out of the question). He wields two twin swords with a great amount of skill, and was known to often assist Two with her dangerous monster eradication missions in the past.
As a Disciple, he also has the ability to draw upon his Intoner's power to summon the Egregori, two giant armored creatures that serve as Two's angels. While he can also summon these without the aid of an Intoner, doing so costs him his own life (or rather, the ability to retain a human form).
◎ Weapons & Other Special Inventory: Two twin swords known as Cries and Whispers.
CEREALIA-Specific
◎ Element: Water
◎ Sense: Scent, because his name is Cent and that seems hilarious to me. In truth, he doesn't really display any particular affinity or attachment to any of his senses in the game, so scent seems as good to me as any other.
◎ Seven Character Traits: ( Proud, Loyal, Caring ) | ( Stupid, Manipulative, Arrogant, Careless )
